Rajan

Crucially, the entire cost of the complex procedure, including the hospital stay and post-operative care, was fully covered by Rajan’s Ayushman Card. While the surgery itself was a success, leading to Karan’s discharge without complications, the pathology report revealed the shocking underlying cause: Renal Tuberculosis (TB).
It was estimated that this serious infection had been undiagnosed for a very long time—approximately 5 to 6 years. The disease had silently destroyed the function of the kidney over years, masked by the symptoms of pain and obstruction.
Thanks to the prompt surgery covered by Ayushman Bharat, the source of chronic infection was removed. Now, Karan is receiving the necessary follow-up care, which includes Anti-Tubercular Therapy (ATT).

The severity of the disease was marked by:
 Massive Tumor Size: The tumor measured over 12 cm.
 Critical Location: The cancerous mass was dangerously abutting the whole length of the Inferior Vena Cava (IVC)—the body’s largest vein, which carries deoxygenated blood back to the heart. This proximity made the surgery immensely complex and high-risk.
To achieve a complete cure, Mohan required an extensive and technically demanding surgery in a single sitting:
1. Nephroureterectomy with Bladder Cuff Removal: The radical removal of the diseased kidney, its corresponding ureter, and a cuff of the bladder to ensure all cancerous tissue was excised.
2. Retroperitoneal Lymph Node Dissection (RPLND): A meticulous procedure to remove lymph nodes in the retroperitoneum (the area behind the abdominal cavity) to stage the cancer and prevent further spread.
Despite the massive tumor size and the inherent risks of operating near the IVC, the surgical team achieved an outstanding result. Mohan was successfully treated and, remarkably, was discharged without even a wound complication.
